The Governor’s Convoy is being held hostage in Anambra by IPOB Militants who are disrupting the APGA campaign.
On Tuesday, gunmen suspected of being militants of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) kidnapped Anambra State Governor Willie Obiano’s motorcade.
The incident occurred when the attackers disrupted the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) campaign gathering at Odata Secondary School in the state’s Ihiala Local Government Area.
“The governor’s convoy was held up for approximately an hour while there were gunfire all about,” a local informed reporters.
DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra, confirmed the attack at Ihiala.
Ikenga stated in a statement that Anambra Police Command operatives foiled the attack in Odata.
One AK 47 rifle, two magazines with 30 rounds of ammo, a Lexus 350 jeep, a Rav 4 jeep, a Mercedes Benz, and a Toyota Corolla were among the exhibits retrieved from the attackers, according to him.
According to preliminary investigations, the hoodlums began shooting irregularly when they got at Odata Secondary School, but security operatives quickly regained control.
He stated that normalcy has been restored in the neighborhood and that operations to apprehend fleeing gang members are ongoing.
In response to the incident, Anambra state Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr. C.Don Adunuba, stated that a joint team of police officers and military repulsed the onslaught.
Meanwhile, Obiano praised the police officers and military who thwarted the attack.
